The President's Podium

Winners

Well, our Spring Miniwars convention is over, and it was a great success again. After counting up the attendance we had about 80% of the entire Chapter in attendance, plus 11 new members who signed up at the front desk. Counting all the newbies who have joined since January, it looks like we are well on our way to meeting this years new membership goals. Well done all!

I want to thank Scale Specialties, The Warhouse, and Webster Enterprises for sponsoring wargames on the main floor of the convention.

The winners were;

In Robert Guyton's Saturday morning 1809 Napoleonic Peninsula game

1st place Spanish Commander Don Williams
2nd place British Commander Bob Genso
3rd place French Commander Mark Guyton

In Steve Thorne's Saturday morning WWII naval game

    1st place Glenn Davis
    2nd place Tim Charlesworth
    3rd place Marcela Figueroa

In Rob Boyen's WWII skirmish gam

    e1st place Michael Svette
    2nd place Greg Wallick
    3rd place Bill Heizer

In our traditionally insane Chariot Race (ie.Roman demolition derby) the first place winner was Wayne "Mad dog" Hilton. Second place went to Marc" Road Rage" Canu, and third place went to Keith "Hey, can I add nitrous to my horse?" Hughes. Wayne, Marc, and Keith were all awarded ancient bronze Roman coins supplied by Allen Hughes and Steve Verdoliva. Congratulations to the winners! Our Chapter meeting was well attended and many issues were discussed. It was questioned whether we get our money's worth from our current website, however Steve Verdoliva pointed out that this site has caught the attention of the other HMGS Chapters and brought us good publicity. We have had people from across the country join our Chapter. Alex Webster reported that the GenCon people are asking our Chapter to help run their Historical gaming at their west coast convention in Anaheim this December, and we have agreed. Jose Mendiola reported that again HMGS/PSW dominated the Historical wargaming at OrcCon, and laid out a plan for us to again support StrategiCon over this Memorial Day. Fred Rosenberg reported on the status of his coming monster WWII West Front game and asked if people were interested in playing commands. 25 people stated that they were interested in playing various Allied and German commands!

It was proposed that we draw upon the many military bases here in Southern California and Nevada to bring speakers who had served in the Persian Gulf War, and we agreed.

The President's Award

This award is given out at each full Miniwars Convention to the best wargame hosted at there. Judging is based on the quality of the figures used, the quality of the terrain, the host's knowledge of the rules and handouts, how well the game ran, and overall presentation. The winner of the Spring Miniwars President's award is

    Jim Svette

Jim's Sunday morning 15mm WWII Eastern Front game used Battle Front rules. The vehicles were painted to Master class status, and his terrain was model railroad quality! Jim's knowledge of the rules, and his good natured refereeing keep everyone happy and the game moving along. Jim's games are truly an asset to our Chapter.
