The Oracle

Voice of the Editors

There was some more interesting debate at the last convention. There was talk about the costs of the newsletter, so we thought we would let you see for yourself what the costs have been. Since the first printing of the color newsletter, HMGS-PSW membership has been increasing. We sure hope that the newsletter has been a part of that expansion! Here is a price breakdown for the last 5 issues of the newsletter:

March 2002 175 copies, 20 pages each, for $455.04 $2.60 per copy
May 2002 175 copies, 32 pages each, for $477.85 $2.73 per copy
August 2002 190 copies, 28 pages each, for $436.36 $2.30 per copy
November 2002 165 copies, 28 pages each, for $428.73 $2.60 per copy
February 2003 175 copies, 28 pages each, for $439.07 $2.51 per copy

We have been trying to keep costs down. We have shifted away from the glossy covers (starting with the August 2002 issue). Rising postal costs have hurt us. On occasion, we save postage to the stores by delivering the copies ourselves, but it is a long drive from Santa Clarita to Brookhurst, so that doesn't always happen. We also have been working hard to improve the written content in the newsletter and we hope it shows!
