OH BY GOSH BY GOLLY, IT'S TIME FOR THE CARDINAL'S TRAVELLING FOLLIES Yes it is possible to go to 5 conventions in 6 weeks but I don't rec ommend it. March saw me visiting Cold Wars in Lancaster, PA. Ran my Crusaders with Might of Arms, played in a lot of Might of Arms games, but only shopped a little. Thumbnail review: Historicon with snow and a day shorter. Save for the summer con but go in the spring if summer doesn't fit your schedule. GAMA Trade Show? Nothing here caught my eye except for seeing Pen and Norm from Scale Specialties. Seven Years War convention is a must for the Lace Wars crowd. How bizarre is it to have a convention that caters to a roughly 30 year period. I say it only goes to prove how insane one can get about miniatures. Right Steve (you know who you are). All said though, one of the great socializing cons to go to. Swill beer and swap war stories until dawn glints off that damn golden dome of Notre Dame. Now remember my armchair travelers that was only March. April saw me in the Chicago area for Little Wars where my favorite game was ... ELECTRIC FOOTBALL. As my Joe Namath Jets crushed the old Oakland Raiders, scoring at will and with an incredible inside blitz. This has to be seen to be believed but Paul Petri has built a stadium for his field and put together teams from throughout football history. He informs me that this is quite a sub-culture in the Midwest with leagues and a convention at the South Bend, IN College Football Hall of Fame. All in all a great con and a great time. Our own Spring campaign took place in April also and was a good success with over 2/3rds of the membership renewing or carrying over. Games looked good, players and dealers looked happy. Thanks to Scale Specialties, The War House, and Webster Enterprises for the prize support. Currently membership stands at 136, but before you celebrate, about 40 members need to renew. As of writing this Article, we have $6600.00 in the bank and are owed some for newsletter ads. We have payments coming up for the July Mini-campaign day, the Fall convention, and this newsletter. Say $6000.00 when all is said and done. The July mini-con theme is Horse and Musket 1680-1880. Please contact me if you want to run a game. Remember any game can be run but theme games get priority for table space. As always first come first served. You've had your sugar, now it's time for your castor oil. I will NOT be running for any position within HMGS-PSW this Fall or for the foreseeable future. I will not be convention manager after the Fall convention. I will continue to be a participating member but it is time I retire from the Junta. This means that it's time for others to step forward and accept the burden of command. My fellow Dogs of War support me in this 110% and I would not look in The Pound for any replacements. The time for a new person with new ideas is now. My fellow Board members Mark and Kevin are great guys and I wish them all the best if they want to continue in office, but I'm burnt out and bone tired. As always may luck be with you and I'll see you around the gaming table, Back to Table of Contents The Messenger May 2003 Back to The Messenger List of Issues Back to MagWeb Magazine List © Copyright 2003 by HMGS/PSW.
