Well folks, springtime is almost upon us and as this Oracle is being written, there is a possibility of a US attack on Iraq. However there are some things that we, as the Editors of this esteemed publication feel that we must mention. The first announcement... (drum roll please)... we are celebrating our first anniversary with Robert, Marc, Gary and Dan ("The Golden Ork") as the Messenger's editors. We have certainly come a long way from that first issue which some claimed had a lot of pictures in it (I'd like to point out that our desks were not contaminated with articles at the time). This is the 5th issue since we took over and we have learned a lot from doing the newsletter. We believe that we are on the right track and yes, we will continue to tell YOU to send US articles. Some of you have responded to this call and that is great. Remember, this newsletter is neither the Editors' publication, nor is it the Officers' publication, it is the CHAPTER'S publication. By Chapter, I mean our esteemed members who make up this feisty group of miniatures enthusiasts who enjoy doing the research, painting, modeling and, of course, playing miniatures games. Which leads us to another issue that has cropped up recently, Allen Hughes has written an article dealing with letting people play fantasy and sci-fi games at our HMGS-PSW conventions. He explained that long ago the Chapter voted on the issue and it was decided that there could be sci-fi and fantasy tournaments there, but that HMGS-PSW was first and foremost and historical miniatures gaming group. That sounds fair to us and we must admit that we can recruit more members with honey than with vinegar. We would also like to add that this kind of situation is the reason that our Chapter should have written or taped minutes. There just ain't no way to verify what happened ten years ago or more now, is there? Remember, fantasy and sci-fi designs would not be around if it were not for the historical originals. It was observed at this past ORCCON 2003 that there was a larger presence of historical miniatures gaming there then there has been in a long time. In the words of the Simpson's character, Montgomery Bums, EEEEEEXCELLENT! !" Well, until next time, may your HE rounds and dice not turn out to be duds!
