by HMGS-PSW President Tim Daun
To all ye who see these presence Greetings: Another Spring Convention is upon us and judging by the event schedule, it looks like a good one. I wanted to address you today and share some information regarding the state of HMGS/PSW, both locally and nationally. First let me say that PSW is alive and well. We continue to be a viable entity in the Historic Miniature Gaming Society. That being said, let's discuss that vote we took at the convention. The issue was we voted on, was to leave HMGS National Board of Directors, not HMGS itsclf We wished to continue as a chapter, but not participate on the National Board. PSW membership voted overwhelmingly to leave the BoD. We wrote the board advising them of our intent and received a response that was, shall we say, curt and reactionary. Since then, we have had useful discussion with national board members repeating our concerns. We meet with Harold Johnson the National Board representative from HMGS/Midwest in Feb. at ORCCON. We outlined many of our grievances to Harold, he was sympathetic, it appears that many of these were not unknown to him. Our meeting with Harold was very positive and he gave us several good ideas that we could use to strengthen and improve our chapter. Together we outlined a strategy to approach the board formally so they could address these issues. I would like to thank Bill Johnson for taking the time out of his busy schedule to meet with us. We'll keep you posted on the outcome of this continuing issue, Second, we have set up an aggressive Gameday schedule at our local retailers. This is not only to introduce HMGS to those who do not know about us, but also to show our appreciation to those vendors kind enough to sponsor us, who are vital to our society. Both Gamedays so far, were lightly attended, but we did get to meet some new people, (spend some money), and show the public what HMGS,/PSW has to offer. But we need to get the word out to you members ' attend the Gamedays. We need you as ambassadors of our hobby, and exam les of what HMGS is all about. Information loor date and time ( next Gameday, is elsewhere in the newsh Finally, I want to thank the current and former boards for so ably assisting me during this transition period: especially Steve Verdoliva, and Stephen Phenow, for their invaluable insights. Thanks all. The next year promises to be fun and challenging. I look forward to meeting you all. and I will see at the Spring Campaign.
