Now that you can see that the newsletter is coming out regularly, can I have some articles from different people? So far, Eric Schultz is my only regular contributor, besides myself. I think by now members would be tired of Ancient and American Civil War articles. So here is our latest issue: chock full of information about Ancients, American Civil War, and game mechanisms. My series on the Punic War continues, Civil War historian Ray Belknap, who is another HMGS non-member, (we hope to change that shortly) gives a summary and battle report from Drum Barrack's Battle Group's Vicksburg Campaign. Eric Schultz describes what it's like being a "6 footer" at Waterloo! We have thoughts on command control in miniature battles, from players on the Net. Finally one Saturday last month I refought Stones River with Michael Verity's Napoleonic group, using Fire & Fury rules. I had forgotten how much I dislike those rules. I got Eric Schultz and Mike Miller on the phone (not together) after the game and discussed how to improve Fire & Fury, or at least add some historical perspective to the game. As of now I think it makes a great Seven Years War recreation. The ideas were written up and are ready for you to try at your next F&F game. Finally here is our fall campaign announcement. All the details are inside. If you plan to put on a game, reserve your space now". I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new assistant convention manager Grace Arwick. Grace should add organization to our convention. We need it. Grace has organized conventions for Xerox and called it a piece of cake. Well see how she can whip us non-corporate types in shape. Once again a cry for members. Memberships are down, and so is our ability to do things. Any of you who are not members but are reading this newsletter -- join now! Besides the nifty newsletter, there is a 10% discount at selected hobby stores for HMGS' members. We put on two all-historical conventions each year. This allows members to showcase their clubs and gain additional club members, or experiment with different rule sets or periods in miniatures, without investing in the rules or figures. About the elections, they will be handled through the mail. People have declared candidacy. There is more on the elections in Steve's Fearless Leader column. We will cover platforms and declarations of intent in the next issue. Even though one person running unopposed is a member of an old club I used to be a member, I hope additional members will run, in opposition only to bring some additional choices to the electoral process. I still need articles. People have told me that they plan to write, or are writing articles, but as of yet I haven't seen any of them. And while I am on the subject of articles, if you submit an article to me and someone else please let me know. O'Neil didn't and his review of Command at Sea appeared in both # 25 and Historical Gamer # 28. So while I didn't steal the review, it still could have been a sticky situation. So let me know will ya! To Mr. Biles and the rest of the Historical Gamer staff, I must apologize, I was unaware of the duplication. I saw the 30' board that Rich Dc Rosa is building for his Maine part deux on Sept. 16th, and it's great. The marshes of Saint-Gond are especially awesome. When he is done, between the first and second Marne boards, Rich will field 14 miles of battlefield. Where he is going to set it up, well that's another story. Don't forget Gameday on the 16th, and Ill see some of you at Gateway for Bentonville. Ill be the dude in the A.VN. cap. You are welcome to give me any comments about the newsletter at that time. THE NAVAL COLUMN Chuck Duggie is ill. His Naval Column will return in October.
