A quick overview Are you interested in an additional aspect of miniature wargaming? I am speaking of Solo gaming, something that I am familiar with, using it to playtest rule ideas, but what I did not know was that there an organization devoted to all types of soloing. This is the Solo Wargaming Association or SWA for short. To quote from their flyer: "The aim of the SWA is to encourage and support wargamers who lack or prefer to do without the opportunity to face a live opponent for some or all of their wargaming. To improve the standards of solo and postal lay by the exchange of knowledge and technques. Our terms of reference cover all aspects of the hobby, Board and simulations games, miniatures, fantasy & role-playing, computer gaming, special reference to solo and postal play. There is no restriction by historical period and all levels of complexity are catered for. SWA membership is worldwide and constantly expanding. Membership is by annual subscription with the SWA year running from June to June. Subscriptions are $30.00 per year. The magazine of the SWA is the Lone Warrior which is published quarterly. It is produced by amateur gainers for wargamers and comprises of articles on solo wargaming, campaigning, letters and comments, reviews, and general hobby news of interest to members. The scope of the Lone Warrior embraces all aspects of the hobby from tips for beginners to soloing, to how to run a full scale solo campaign." SWA offers the following services for members: PLAY BY MAIL (PBM) List of current and future games plus tips on how to get the most out of PBM. THE SWA LIBRARY: The free loan wargaming library in the world. Books and Magazines which are loaned to members for 1 month, and only costs postage. SWA ADVISERS: These are organization members with a particular knowledge or interest in a period. They volunteer information and ideas to other members upon request. Again postage is the only cost: This is a good way of contacting other members with similar interests. The SWA also produces a Beginners Pack which is full of hints, bps, ru es, and ideas on solo wargaming, which is only available to members at a cost $2.50 (postage included). If you are interested in the above I suggest you contact the SWA secretary. He is KENN HART 14 GALLOWS HILL. RIPON NORTH YORKSHIRE.
