New Editor, New Mag That is the operational philosophy around here these days. Thanks to Mr. Bill Heizer for keeping the Newsletter intact and an information pipeline flowing these last two years, but I hope we are ready to go in new direction. To do this, I need articles. You can write about anything in historical miniature wargaming: battle reports, rule discussions, period discussions, scenarios, etc. And never feel that your contribution will not be appreciated. The fact you look time to write proves you are interested in historical wargaming and I alone appreciate that. Which brings us to Steve's soapbox, Right now we are fighting the greatest enemy of an organized club: Apathy. For those who do not understand what that really is, perhaps "don't care" will say it better. Tiers Clubs always have tiers within it's ranks There are the people that make time to help with the function of the club to make a difference and allow everybody to enjoy themselves. Then there are the people that just show up and take part in the fruits of the first group's labor. Now it seems that our current group of "do somethings" are ready to step down from running things, and us, the club do not have anybody to take their place It's unfair to expect individuals to spend all their time involved in a taxing activity. and not give them breathing space. The current board has not had that option up to now and now has the wish to exercise it. It is up to us to pick up the slack. I know we all have careers, that we are busy and so on, but stop and think. What was the reason when we got involved in this hobby? We wanted someone to share our like interests. You had painted that great looking unit of cavalry, and you wanted someone to comment about it. or you needed to know how Persian Immortals dressed at Marathon. Interesting People The point is this is a hobby that needs interesting people to keep it interesting. And HMGS, our chapter, is a clearing house for these people. Don't let our clearing house close down. Do something. Run for an office. The current board has told me that they will help anyone interested in becoming an officer to "learn the ropes. " Become involved. HMGS/PSW is at a crossroads. Let's hope the road we take this year is the right one. Submissions needed. I need letters, battle reports, articles, as well as new attitude. I want to make this the best newsletter in HMGS/ PSW's history. I have the technology, but I need your input. See the masthead on page 7 for my address. Those who don't use computers write anyway I would like to began regular columns on different branches of miniature warfare. Chuck Doggie has offered to do naval, but I would like more. I can handle Ancients, ACW and I know a lot about other periods, but I do not wish to write this newsletter myself (all though I could if needed). Columns do not have to be long 600 word miniums would be nice, but not necessary.
