WWII Small Boat Miniatures

Who Makes Them?

by Chuck Duggie

I really enjoyed Ron Jackson's battle report in the last issue (Small-Boat Shoot-Out). I though I could give info on rules and miniatures for those interested.

First miniatures;

Skytrex makes a large line of 1:600 models. They have 18 different British ships, 12 German, 5 US, 1 Japanese, 2 Italian, 2 Russian, 4 merchant, 2 aircraft, and 10 landing craft (they even have 7 packs of tanks and trucks to go on dock). These ranging from MTB to small destroyers. Skytrex miniatures are available from the Emperors HQ

S.D.D. is another English company. They have 31 British, 12 German, 1 Italian, 1 Japanese, 4 merchant, and 7 aircraft. There is some duplication with Skytrex but most ships are different. S.D.D. are available from Brookhurst Hobbies, 12 188 Brookhurst St. Garden Grove, CA 92640,

You can also use some plastic models. Airfix makes a line of 1:600 ships. Most are too large (BB, CA & CL) but if you look around you can find older lots for destroyers. You can also use the Japanese made 1:700 models, which are not too far off. They make very many ships and aircraft. Skywave even makes pieces for a harbor with tugboats, etc. and their German coastal sub/MTB pen is a great piece.

Rules; S.D.D. has their house rules, called Schnelleboot which is my favorite. Skytrex carries "Fast Attack" by M.O.D. games. Coastal Command comes form Xeno Games, PO box 7130 Jacksonville, FL 32238-7130. WW 2 Coastal Warfare is from Navwar, 11 Eleme Parade, Seven Kings Road, Ilford, Essex, U.K. IG3 SBY.

Last but not least is the Patrol Craft Association, dedicated to gaming with PT boats. Their magazine is called "The Decklog".5-6 issues/year, and they have their own set of rules: J.P. Kelly USS Nashville (LPD-13) FPO NY 09579-1715. Good Gaming.
