Last year I started a “Therapy Game Group” for boys (ages 8 to 12). We get together to play a game and learn social skills. I eventually gave up my fancy, academic rules approaches and fell back to PBOM. PBOM is a VERY simple, quick fun game. It is hard for people to do it wrong. Which is important when dealing with hyperactive children. The other advantage PBOM has is that it can be tweaked in different ways before each game to produce a unique gaming experience. Each week, I do a game. I never plan ahead on what we will do since I like doing things off the cuff. They seem more spontaneous that way, more like real life, where thinking on your feet is an important skill to have. The following is a description of my most recent game and what it taught.
