Matrix Gamer Book

by Chris Engle

My apologies for not getting this out in July. I was in the throes of getting ready for GenCon. This year more than others I did a lot of prep work. Not in the terrain or miniatures I used. And not in the rules I ran - but instead in the scenario books. I wanted to make the game a bottom end professional product.

It may seem strange to shoot for the bottom end of professional. Why not aim higher? Well, that would be beyond me and if I could do it, I could not repeat it - or sell it for a profit. The bottom end of professional products is a glossy covered full color book of at least 42 pages. A book that requires no extra work on the part of the players to play the game. Product this, and gamers who are not interest leaders (like all of you) will pick it up and play. Lack that and get players but little enthusiasm.

The results were great! My book is a 62 page full color glossy covered, character cards on card stock detachable from the center of the rule book, $12.95 thing. I took 22 copies and sold 21. This may seem small but it isn’t. What it is is a template for future books. All I need to do is write twenty pages of copy to put out a new book. My hope is that in the next year I’ll be able to write ten to twelve new products. A like amount in 2002-2003 and be able to get a dealers table when GenCon moves to Indianapolis.

To do this I need to recruit people to be MG referees. That will free me from the fun job of running games to the much less fun task of selling them. But that is the next step in the process.

The next issue of the MGer will be a full review of Gencon. Including pictures!
