2001 looks like it will start off with a couple of new Matrix Games getting underway. THE PACIFIC WAR Marcus Young is getting geared up to run a WWII game. He may be using some innovative variations on the Classical Matrix Game in that he is contemplating using the number of arguments a side gets each turn reflect their war status. For instance: Japan starts the war with loots of arguments each turn (say five). This will allow them to Blitz the Pacific. Then as battle losses mount and American subs and bombing take their toll, the Japanese would lose arguments. It promises to be fun (in a military kind of way). This game is still open to players. M John Cash (fresh from his successful Passchendale game) is planning to run a truly unique experimental game set in Germany on the eve of the Nazi take over. The game is about a series of child murders but it is more than just a mystery. No, there are three separate stories going on at the same time. There is an actual muderer, there is also a left wing film company making a movie about a murderer (attempting to teach communist ideological lessons) and of course there is the slow rise of the Nazis as a back ground of everything. What is likely to be unique about the game is that players are not going to be certain which arguments are real and which are part of the movie. The whole question of "What is real?" will be questioned. It sounds wild. SANDS OF THE LAND OF THE LOST I'm thinking of running a variation on my Sands of the Sahara game in which the players are going to a lost world in the mountains of the moon. The same 19th Century stock characters will go and what will by a PBEM version of a hybrid Matrix-RPG Game. More on this later. GAMES PRESENTLY IN THE WORKSDRACULA Dylan Alliata is running this historical game about the 1455 war between the forces of Christ and the Ottoman. I'm running the Turks and they don't stand a chance! (Biased review!) BONAPARTE Paul Hayes is running this small game that traces the career of Napoleon from 1805 onward. 1066AD Colin Hagreen is running this game of the Norman Invasion on a separate list from the Matrixgamer egroup list. No details on it but the rumors I hear are that it's going well.
