"From the dawn of civilization they have walked among us. They have been our kings, our demons, our angels, and our gods. For eons, they have shaped human existence. These are the enigmatic Atlanteans. The most human of all aliens, they may be humanitys greatest enemy, or our only hope. Immortal, invulnerable, possessed of astounding technology, Atlanteans sit astride the pinnacle that mankind hopes one day to achieve. Will they help us climb to their heights or will they send us tumbling down into an eternity of servitude as their slaves?" Thus begins the new sourcebook Atlantis Rising from Conspiracy X, giving all necessary history to the mysterious Atlanteans. For those not familiar with Conspiracy X, it's one of the hottest role?playing games going. Picture a lot of X-Files, some Cyberpunk and a little Matrix, and you begin to get the idea. The main plots seem to involve agencies protecting Earth from plans of alien conquering and enslaving mankind, but this is also a world where the possibility of meeting vampires and werewolves exists. The actual source book is mostly written as though all information a series of downloads to gain the information on the various races, classes and needed history. There is a timeline included to show the evolution of the world, and how Atlanteans have basically always been among us. The first chapter gives the introduction, and subsequent chapter are dedicated to give the knowledge of Atlanteans and their activity, the societies of the Atlantean outcasts, detailed records of the Atlanteans past and present, a record of forefathers (giving specific names and character attributes), artifacts, nanotechnology, and rules and stats for the game. The information contained was very thorough and elaborate in the creation and explanation for this world. The artwork was acceptable inside and most importantly, eyecatching on the exterior. To really get into Atlantis Rising, I'd make sure you have the Conspiracy X source book as its companion. It may not contain Mulder and Scully, but who needs vague conspiracy theories about black oil when you have Atlanteans and Saurians to worry about?
