The only reason members are reading this is that I have finally managed to drag myself screaming away from this g-r-e-a-t game long enough to complete this edition. I am a big fan of ‘Cossacks’, even though the periods dealt with are not my first choice in gaming eras at present. Although I am used to ‘Cossack’, this game took me by surprise by the sheer scale of the battles one can fight, the multitude of troops that are available for use, the stunning scenery and terrain but the animation is just … lifelike! Cavalry move through infantry and the later actually step aside and then get back into position, not as a block but individually! If that does not blow your mind then watch the oared vessels manoeuvre, or the flights of arrows or burning ballista missiles streak across the sky. Trouble is while all this is going on the dastardly AI is doing its best to outwit you! Needs a big machine and if you want to learn more then check out www.alexander-thegame.com, because I am busy knocking down the walls of a port to get at my fleeing enemy. Oh! The film? Personal view; Great battle scenes, but not enough of them and better to wait for the DVD; so the rest can be cut out and just watching the wargaming interesting bits. Do note the amount of dust [hindering visibility] thrown up by the combatants – feel another rule coming on and what did Don Featherstone have to say on this?
