I was scanning a website (www.freewargamesrules.co.uk) and came across a solo science fiction game which I have found to be very enjoyable. It is titled Battle Platform Antilles and was designed by Dan Verssen. The game is based on combat between a large AI operated battle platform and a small fleet of human-operated (player controlled) space ships called Paladins. The play lends itself to a lot of tactical maneuvers by the Paladins; concentration of fire or swarming attacks from all angles. They are frequently thwarted by the unpredictable paths of the weapon of the battle platform. These bolts may twist and turn and attack on the flank or rear quarters of the starships. Since I like the visual appeal of miniatures, I have pulled an old lead starship model for the Antilles and some small space carrier-based fighters from my junk box to represent the Paladins. I play on larger hexes cut from an old black Starfield hex map. There are enough surprises in the system that I have been drawn back to play it again many times. I thank the designer and the website for making this ruleset available to all of us.
