Progress

by Rich Barbuto

Let me reiterate what it means to rank third on Magweb.com. Rankings are based on the number of hits received in a quarter. So, one person checking out one article, registers one hit. Now, Lone Warrior is published quarterly while many, many mags on Magweb.com are published bi-monthly.

So, Lone Warrior typically has fewer articles published in a quarter and therefore fewer opportunities for hits. So, to rank in the upper five or so out of so many fine gaming and history magazines, is really quite an achievement which I attribute to the quality of writing by our many contributors. For whatever reason, Magweb.com subscribers find enough of interest in Lone Warrior to keep returning.

And another interesting thing about Magweb.com is that they retain back issues. Yes, if you want to read 6 years of Lone Warrior back issues, they are all there! And a hit is a hit regardless if it is on a new article or one that is years old.

Which brings me to another point that I have made before. All you potential authors out there, now that we are on Magweb.com and are obviously popular among Magweb.com subscribers, if you want to be read by hundreds not only now but for years to come, send in that article! I especially enjoy reading ideas on how to run solo campaigns as well as battle reports. But of course, we publish virtually anything that will appeal to the solo wargamer.

Now let me discuss for a moment my plans for the future of the hard copy North American edition of Lone Warrior. I would be very pleased to add 6-8 pages of material to Lone Warrior.

First, of course, we need an author base to provide that much material each quarter. Sometimes I can fill shortfall by re-publishing old material but I would not want to do so regularly. Secondly, it would mean a slight increase in cost to cover both postage and additional printing cost. We have maintained a $20 membership fee since 1995 but this would change if we expanded. But I really would be pleased to read from our members what they think about expansion as well as what kinds of articles they most enjoy reading.

I promised to keep you all up to date on my book, Niagara 1814: America Invades Canada. Well, you can now order it from Amazon.com as well as Barnes and Noble. Also, it should appear in a mailing to all you members of the History Book Club in the not too distant future. Cost is a hefty $40 for the four hundred page book. I have already begun researching the prequel: Niagara 1812. This will cover Queenston Heights and all events on the Niagara Frontier during the first year of the war.
