You may have noticed that there has not been much action on the Website over the past weeks. I thought I had better let you all know that I haven't given up it is just that I currently have no time to do any real work on it. There is a baby (due in about 3 days, if he/she turns up on time), and a deadline for a large mortgage firm (due in about two weeks). Both of these mean little sleep and little time to do anything! Give me a couple of weeks and things should pick up again. As a result of this I am going to be writing more of the back end of things so administration can be automated (this does take time). But what it could mean is that I could hand over some responsibilities to other members (if they are willing) by giving them access to these admin screens. For example: 1. Events Diary. Entering events into the diary is not particularly difficult but it does take up valuable time that I could be using to develop the site. A willing volunteer (or volunteers) could be given access to the add, edit screens for the diary and take over. If an American (or someone who knows the American circuit) would volunteer, then the Diary could become more Global and better assist our members. 2. The adding of new members to the members area. This could be automated so the new member would fill in a form on-line and then submit it. The form would be sent to the relevant Membership secretary who could check the person and then go on-line and authorise (by clicking a button on an admin screen). The authorisation (or not) would then automatically e-mail the person telling them they had been accepted / rejected. 3. More on-line screens for the quiz. You can currently add questions to the next quiz and then when you have done ten questions it has a screen that lets you update the quiz to this new set of questions. I would love to have a member volunteer to become the Quizmaster. This one takes up quite a bit of time trying to come up with questions and I really don't think I do it as much justice as someone who would only have responsibility for the quiz and nothing else. Other outstanding issues are: Quiz Archive (Answers to previous questions), Quiz game for non-members (no prize, unlike the members quiz). Engarde PBEM, Bulletin Board Enhancements, Additions to benefits screen, Members Library Listing, Members Admin page to allow personal info to be edited, including changing password, join various activities (quiz, pbem etc.) and so on. Don't worry Matt, I haven't forgotten your Campaign Board! In fact, this is really one of the reasons for this e-mail. I just cannot get enough time to get the thing finished along with all the other site developments and maintenance. So relief on the maintenance will help me put more time into development. I always try to keep in mind that this site of ours is not a replacement for our Mag but another arm of it. It is there to do things for members that the Mag cannot do or to assist the Mag in reaching a wider audience. It is there to provide a presence for SWA on the Web. So if anyone thinks the Site is effecting the Mag in a detrimental way I want to know about it immediately. I hope you are all keeping well and please feel free to drop me a line anytime. Ideas for web pages or offers of help will be greatly appreciated. This is OUR site, so feel free to treat it as such and get involved if you want to.
