Had put this edition to bed when I received the following email from Grahaeme! Grahaeme Ross: [gross@nildram.co.uk]. As you know I am a Professional Developer, what you probably don't know is that I am a professional Web Developer, having worked on many Web projects for companies like BP and ICL in the last few years. In the last year I finally managed to get some time to start setting up my own web sites and realised that I wanted to do something for my hobby. As a Solo Wargamer I immediately thought of Lone Warrior. At considerable expense I went out and bought up lone warrior. com, lonewarrior.org, lone warrior. net, lonewarrior.co.uk, lonewarrior.org.uk. I have now set up the prototype site at http://wwA,.Ionewarrior.com which I would like you to take a look at. My aim is a simple one, to get SWA onto the net. I am offering: Free e-mail (e.g. kennhart@lonewarrior.com) and internet access to the Solo Wargamers Association management committee and the Honorary members. E-mail and internet access as above to members of SWA for £ 3 per annum. £ 5 for non-members. One year free to any member who contributes to Lone Warrior. Classified ads area where members can place ads of any kind (selling, buying, help with a conference etc.) (already implemented) Members (and public area) on-line Forum (Bulletin Board) for posting questions on unifortris, battles, painting, anything! (already implemented) Free on-line mail reader and sender for members so they can view your mail from anywhere you can get access to the internet. Download area in which I will provide such things as the Age of Sail Editor as well as other items acquired or written. Members on-line chat area and a Links page. I want to add areas such as access to on-line wargames catalogues from all the companies, which I am currently trying to negotiate, so gainers can go online and get a look at images of the figures and place an order on line. Maybe on-line subscription for Lone Warrior mag? On-line PBEM links or access, an archive for articles from Lone Warrior, a bibliography of wargames related books, reviews, a diary of events, to list just a few others. What I am offering, is my skills to develop SWA on the Internet. I have had a good look round the Internet at all the other sites and not one of them brinas to bear such thin-s as ASP, Javascript, PERL, CGI, VBScript, JAVA Applets, CSS, DHTML, XML, Special Ima-ge effects and the use of databases for the back end. This is what I will be usin2 on this sites to get the best out of it and make it the best. What will SWA get out of this'? Well I think you would agree, quite a lot. You will be able to offer you members a brand new service and be sure of attracting more attention from abroad. I would be surprised if membership did not increase. Your current members will be able to communicate with ease (if they have a PC of course) and the on-line Forum could be a real boon in assisting the SWA advisors service, members who would not want to be official advisors could find themselves being just that via the bulletin board! There are other things but I won't go into them now. Please take a look at the site http://www.lonewarrior.com it works equally well with Internet Explorer or Netscape. The Forum (Bulletin Board) works as does the Classified Ads. The bibliography is there with a few books in it (this works via collecting the titles from a database and is not done by typing the entries onto the page directly. The other areas are under construction (I hope you like the digging pirate image), [he's great] just a matter of finding time to input info. I want this site to be a joint venture with Solo Wargamers Association. What I will get out of it is finally contributing to my hobby (hopefully in a big way) and recouping my costs, if enough people buy into the email. Grahaeme Ross
[Grahaeme, Needless to say I immediately went and had a look and was impressed, sent the information to Kris and Graham so they can also go "Wow!" Actually managed to speak to Graham on this and he is delighted, and agrees that it is put to the Management Committee that you become our Internet Site Administrator. You will note in Forum that you have pre- empted Jonathan and undoubtedly he will be having a look and signing up. I personally like the idea of having an email address that is solely 'Solo Wargamers Association', so I will be able to go straight to the important stuff without shifting through letters on other more mundane matters.
