If everything went to plan Life would be boring, they say and right now I could do with a little boredom! First the scanner had had enough, then the printer quit closely followed by the computer itself! All just before two final essay for university and this edition to get out. Fortunately, the SWA as Kris Constable on call and he finally got us back up and working, so this edition is dedicated to him. A point on the use of the scanner; it needs good copy to work from, so please bear that in mind when submitting anything that will require its use. In my few moments of 'escape' I have been slowly building up my New Kingdom Egyptian army as well as blowing the dust of my other Ancients so I can use them with WHAB rules. My Ancients are based for other sets of rules and the use of 'Fallen Heroes' or casualty figures does away with the need for any re-basing, and adds an extra visual dimension to the table. With uni out of the way for the Summer I will have time to get to work on 128 and get around to answering your outstanding letters. At one stage in the last few months my only wargaming was the Tournament and I can recommend it to anyone who has the bottle to decide a plan, layout your army, give them the orders and then let someone else play the game. It is a realistic chain of command and is great fun but I would say not for the faint hearted. The ADC service, although slow to start appears to be getting its disciples and I must emphasise that you don't have to become and ADC to obtain their assistance. Some good stuff for the next edition, but I always welcome articles, reviews, ideas and comments. Have a good Summer and may the die be with you – unless you are playing me! Yes! Fourth again on Magweb! Congratulations. Thanks to all Contributors and The TEAM. Good Soloing, Kenn Hart Readers, a short while ago I received the following email from our SWA Secretary, Graham Empson.
It is with much regret that I inform you that the Solo Wargamers Associations Chairman and Chief Reviewer, Mr. David Barnes, died on 26 June 1999 from a heart attack on his 66th birthday. His contribution to wargaming in general and especially to our Association and Lone Warrior in particular is immeasurable. He was a gentleman in all senses of the word, an inspiration to all of those who were fortunate enough to have known or corresponded with him. Kenn Hart attended the funeral and passed on our condolences to his widow Mary. Yours sincerely, Graham. You will remember David as the artist whose drawings of military miniatures are used extensively in illustrating the North American edition of Lone Warrior. You will also recall his articles printed in these pages. Readers of MWAN know David by his extensive reviews of figures as well as articles and letters published in that journal. David and I carried on an intermittent correspondence on SWA matters and I was always impressed by his gentlemanly manner and selfless contribution to the hobby. We will miss David and our thoughts are with his family.
