The Paraguay game is now suspended. Mind you, I now have thoughts about the unification of Italy as a possible scenario. Individuals can easily be allocated objectives such as "Overtax the peasants and never grant a constitution" or "Unite and reform Italy". That way, if everyone sits doing nothing, the reactionaries win. Mike Buttle is launching a game scenario called Westland. It's based on customs dues, of all things, and uses a map of Devon/Cornwall scaled up to the size of France/Germany. The period is 1900-1915. There are three states, and between them are a collection of city states, which pay tribute to "Cornwall", out of the customs dues levied on trade in luxury goods with "Brendon" and "Exeter". The two eastern states finance a large part of their army costs out of the profits on that trade. Thus, if Cornwall raises its tribute, the city states raise their customs dues, the profitability of the trade is hit and Brendon and Exeter start to have problems maintaining their armies. Could be interesting. Congratulations to Chris Grice, for his running of "Taming the Sealion". It sounds an interesting game in itself, the invasion of England in 1940, but his dialogue was particularly spot on - I could just hear Captain Mainwaring spluttering away in his usual style. "Dragonhelm" is now up and running as a commercial game. For SWA members (NOT MagWeb members--RL, I can run a concessionary rate of half price (£ 2-75 to start, £ 2-25 for ordinary turns). The playtest ran well. Back to Table of Contents -- Lone Warrior #125 Back to Lone Warrior List of Issues Back to MagWeb Magazine List © Copyright 1999 by Solo Wargamers Association.
