Uniforms of the Italian States
1740-48

Review by David Barnes

Uniforms of the Italian States 1740-48 (Piedmont-Sardinia, Genoa, Modena and the two Sicilies). By Stephen Manley. Available from Potsdam Flags & Publications, 16, Buckminster close, Derby, DE21 2EA.

SWA members get 10% discount off books/flags when dealing direct with Potsdam F & P but not off P&P. The Post office gives no discounts. Cheques or Postal/Money Order - or for Brits - unused postage stamps to pay for small money orders up to £ 2.00.

Now for the booklet: The ISBN is 1 900688 08 5. There are 34 pages. Pages 1 to 5 deals with Genoa. Part II, pages 6 to 16 Sardinia. Part III, pages 17 to 22 Modena. Part IV, pages23 to 32 The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (Naples). General Notes p33. Select Bibliography page 34.

The booklet is crammed with information gathered with a great deal of effort and research. If you want to build an army of the Italian States at this time there is very little more one needs in the way of references. This booklet joins the others already published on:

The Uniforms of the French Army 1740-1748
The Uniforms of the British Army 1739-1748
The Uniforms of the Dutch Army 1740-1748
The Uniforms of the Spanish Army 1739-1748 (2nd Edition)

In progress are booklets on the Prussian, Austrian, Danish, Swedish and German States and others on the flags of the combatants. Send for a list of productions. It will be worthwhile.
