BATTLEFIELDS #5. This issue contains Noli Illegitimos (Napoleonic Naval encounter) 13-14 March 1799 by Paddy Griffiths. [Could tie in with the new release Age of Sail by Empire Interactive.] Reviews of PC Games and Magazines, alas not Lone Warrior this time! Stand To! by a chap called K. W. Hart - a scenario based on the ACW but could be used for any period either solo or multi player. Wargaming Forum - not letters but ideas on gaming. The Battle for Dien Bien Phu (Pt 2) 1953/4. Cannae 216BC by Daniel Burkley using DBA rules. Readers Letters page. The Battle of Madrid 1936. Quite a spread which is very well written and supported with excellent maps, photographs and drawings. (On a personal note there is an advert for the "Definitive Guide to the ECW on CD ROM" if anyone has information on it I would welcome it, prior to spending £24.95! Graham Empson). Battlefields is available from Caliver Books (or On Military Matters in the US--RL), and in the opinion of members that have read pervious editions deserves our support. WHITE DWARF. Before you get in a flap I feel there is no need to review this amazing mag but would just like to point out that apart from admiring the standards the guys set I like the atmosphere they achieve. It is happy and friendly but most of the Fantasy players I know appear to be like that. They lose a whole unit to some evil spell and just shrug it off - me I have a fit! Perhaps I need to change my attitude somewhat. Kenn. NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Vol 190, No 6 - Dec 96. Genghis Khan. For those that are interested in the Dec edition there was an excellent 36 page article on the Mongols plus a Double Map Supplement which measures 1' 10" x 3' 2"! One one side it shows the Golden Horde on the move along with many other interesting details and on the reverse there is a highly detailed map of where the Mongols went a wandering! They certainly got around. Breathtaking. At the time of writing Part 2 in the Feb edition as not yet arrived but once it does, it is blow off the dust on my Irregular Miniature 6mm warriors and off we go. Talking of which ... IRREGULAR MINIATURES. Ian Kay recently gave me a couple of sheets, on the first was a list of his latest releases on on the second "Really Useful Guns" were listed 40 (forty) guns. SAE to him for sheets. MWAN (Midwest Wargamers' Association Newsletter). Hal Thinglum edits this amazing magazine and regularly includes details of the SWA in it, plus both Associations exchange magazines. You will note that copies of MWAN are available on loan from the Solo Wargamers Association Library. MWAN is an A5 magazine of 192 pages crammed full of articles, rules, advertisements, reviews and letters, published 6 times a year . For general wargaming fun and enjoyment it stands alone in its contents and value for money. Highly recommended and if you don't believe me, then try a copy from the SWA Library!
