The hill contours, bogs and woods are impassable to all troops. Infantry and Artillery have identical maximum move, with 50% increase when on roads (e.g. 6" on road, 4" cross country). Cavalry move 1.5 times maximum infantry move (e.g. 9") on either road or cross country. Roads are wide enough to take 1 artillery limber and gun, with crew, or one infantry unit marching in column. To limber up or unlimber takes artillery 1 move - cannot fire in that move. (Those are the rules I use. you use or devise your own. ) Distances
D to B = 6 infantry road moves C to E = 1 infantry road move E to D = 1 infantry road move E to F = 1.5 infantry road move (1 cavalry move, e.g. 9") Just a reminder that my cavalry do not carry firearms! Not to scale! The Royal Gruanian Army is on the defensive against invasion by the forces of Litvania. An outpost of the Royal Gruanian Army is at Sorrell Point, commanded by Major Gronow. This outpost consists of a 2 gun battery of field foot Artillery at A ( 1 gun crew at "stand to" and one at "stand down"), with 2 units of line infantry posted in close proximity to D ( 1 unit at 'stand to" and one in camp lines). Unknown to Major Gronow there is offtable at C, a Litvanian Army contingent under command of Lt. Col. Lechitsky and comprising 1 unit of line infantry (of similar strength to a Gruanian Infantry unit) and 1 unit of Light Cavalry. Simultaneously. (what a coincidence!) both Commanders receive a message from their HQs from that moment until sunset is 12 moves The Litvanian contingent enter table at C at commencement of first move. The messages were: To Major Gronow, Commanding at Sorrell Point To: Lt. Col. Lechitsky, Commanding 3rd Reconnaissance Party. Closing Comment I know I'm a ruddy poor general, at the best of times, and the best I have managed is to get away with is 1 gun. But then, the dice nevers favour me I'm sure it isn't lack of skill, simple bad luck. Map
