Over to the west there's considerable smoke from burning cane. The road is muddy and narrow with little room to manoeuvre. There are shanty huts in the clearing, outside of one are a couple of dead bodies.

Throw a D6:

1: The dead are soldiers of the Armee Haitien killed by pro-US militia (2 + 1D4 militiamen) who welcome their US allies.

2-3: The dead are pro-US supporting civilians. Their killers (2 militiamen with automatic weapons and 3 machete-armed civilians) are visible setting fire to the cane. Will flee off table if attacked.

4-5: They were killed by looters (4 machete-armed civilians and a rogue militiaman) who will attempt to escape from the back of the huts when you arrive.

6: They were killed as part of a Voodoo ritual, as a warning to others. The majority of the killers have gone but 2 + 1D6 civilians remain to loot and burn the cane.
