SWA LIBRARY REPORT

by Steve Foster

Note: The SWA Library is available only to to SWA members, not MagWeb members. It is a benefit of joining the SWA--RL

The library itself now consists of a multitude of books, rules, boardgames, computer games and the like wholly owned by the Association, and other items loaned to members but still owned by individuals such as myself and Kenn. The main condition is that they are not too weighty in order to keep postage costs to a minimum. Members are free to write to whoever owns the item they wish to borrow and the item is posted out to them. The loan length I generally take to be one month from the date of posting at the end of which the borrower should have sent the item back together with the cost of the postage stamps on the initial envelope in order to reimburse the sender.

Whilst this has been going on I will have updated my records so that I can accurately keep track of where everything is at any one time. It is now felt that we should be looking for out of print rules, books etc. that are not currently in the Library, so please before you decide to send any items just drop me a line and I will be able to confirm whether the items could be used.

Now, comments from your North American membership secretary, Rich Barbuto

Okay gang, let's talk library. My guess is that few NA members have written to Steve requesting to borrow books even though there probably were a few titles listed in your "Members Only" packet that caught your eye. I want you to know that as SWA members you have all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities that our European members enjoy. Yes, postage is expensive. A few of you have written to me asking if we could have a North American library. Sure we can, once a volunteer comes forward to accept responsibility.

I see it happening this way. One of you, perhaps with a large holding already, agrees to become librarian. He handles the bookwork of keeping an updated bibliography. Members can donate material to the SWA which the librarian would maintain. Other members, who choose to do so but who want to retain ownership, make their collection available to borrowers by sending the list to the librarian for addition to the "Members Only" packet. However, these folks would do the mail out of material directly with the borrower. Remember, book borrowing is restricted to SWA members only. Any takers? If so, write me and let me know. We can publish the procedures and get going.
