Ian Hall: I am glad that the SWA is continuing. Lone warrior is an invaluable publication and I have been able to improve my soloing immensely by using some of the ideas that have been published recently. Do you know of any strategic boardgames that can be used as a basis for solo campaigning? The period is not important as long as it can be (fairly) easily adapted to other periods. Also if there are any cheap(ish) second-hand copies available, so much the better. [See Godfrey Bailey's latest article which may give you some tips or why not drop him a line. Kenn] Graham Empson: You asked for my reaction to the Back Copies, well, here are my impression thus far. Worth every penny and filled with loads of good information. The early ones seem to get a bit "political" with quite an heated debate going on. It seemed the wrong place for it and must have reduce the article content. Your solution to the last "problem" is by far the better way in my opinion. The later ones seemed to return to What was surely the founders intent, not too serious, informative, thought revoking and wide ranging. So keep up the good work - sincerely meant not flattery. I have now ordered "Mosby's Raiders" thanks to the discovery, courtesy of Steve Bradshaw (Vol 15-5) that someone makes *solo" boardgames. So its new horizons again. I've always believed if we help each other then there are no bounds to what we can achieve to the benefit of all. [Graham thanks for your thoughts and kind words, also you work on Op Archives is really appreciated. Kenn] Mark Bevis:Good to see LW 107. I like the articles on New Orleans 1815 and Operation Frankton - I've got a US 1812-15 army but no British equipped opponents. for me to beat up. Kenn] Jonathan Aird: Thank you for the LW Back Issues that you sent recently t hey made a very interesting read, although I made the mistake of trying to read them in the correct order. This was a mistake because I found that I had the middles but rarely the start of article series and letter column debates. A much better idea was to dip into them at random. I think I prefer the article approach to the long letter, having a title helps to focus thoughts. [Glad you enjoyed those old issues, they really do make good reading. Thanks for the articles, will certainly fit them in. Kenn] George Harris: Been interested in your articles on the Samurai and recent purchased a boardgame, "Samurai Blades" by Standard Games. It is from the same stable as "Cry Havoc" and "Siegen. I have not really had a chance to play many games but I took Godfrey Bailey's advice on how to look after a new game and am a lot better organised than I used to be, for which I than him. There are two maps and three books with the game; one book is for rules which any member familiar with the earlier games will quickly pick u the second gives 6 scenarios and the final book gives the Historical Background and details on the playing pieces. This last book gives all a wargamer needs to know about gaming that period and is a gem. Must go and set up another game and try some solo techniques. Should also mention the art work on the box - inspirational. Thanks. [Thanks for the tip. Kenn] Kevin Waters Thanks for tthe loan of the rules from the SWA Library. If there is anyone in the SWA who is interested in the Jacobite Rebellions and would like to exchange ideas etc., please get in touch. Mark Money writes; "I have problem which the SWA maybe able to help with. I have been researching the aftermath of the 4th Crusade, and the main book that most writers refer back to is "The Latins in the Levant," by W. Miller (1908). I found a copy after 2 years searching in Australia; the spine and inside cover are in English - the X hundred pages following are all in Greek! My knowledge of Greek is non-existent; the question I need answering is, was there ever an edition published in English, or has anybody ever translated this book? Please Help."
