SWA Library

from Mark Hannam, SWA Librarian

I was honoured to be asked to take over the role of SWA Librarian from Bob Clifford, who I must say did an excellent job during his stay in office. I would like to take this opportunity to remind old members and inform more recent ones that there is a substantial lending library available to you. The library includes; magazines and journals, boardgames, tabletop rules, notes contributed by members and a small number of books.

How often have you wondered what a set of wargames rules was like to play with before you purchasing them? If the Library has them then you can borrow them before you buy. Maybe you are designing your own rules and are interested in what systems others have used, again you can have the chance to find out at little cost to yourself. A fully updated list of what is held by the Library and how loan stock can be obtained is available by send 4 x 2nd class stamps, to cover costs, directly to me at my address as printed on the inside cover.

If you have a publication, a game or set of rules that has been kicking about gathering dust, but which could be of interest or benefit to other members please consider that donations to the Library are always welcomed and will be accredited. Perhaps you have something that you would be willing to loan others, but not give up permanently, then how about joining our members lending service? This could be your way of giving something back to the hobby and the SWA.

Enough of the Blue Peter style Christmas appeal. In LW 104, John Ewing highly rated the Thirty Years War rules "Lion of the North" by Neil Danskin. A copy of those rules belongs to the SWA Library and I must admit to digging them out and having a bash with them myself. No less than three times in one weekend. They are brilliant, but remember, you don't have to take my word for it!

The Lance & Longbow Society has donated a copy of "Poleaxed", their increasingly popular C15th/War of the Roses wargames rules to the Library, a selection of their publications will follow. I wonder if other publishers would do the same?

[Mark, thanks for taking on this job with such verve! I have used the Loan Service and Library on a couple of occasions and found it unique! Basically the cost of Return Postage allows a member to fully utilise this ever-increasing Library. Kenn]
