Combat Value (CV)

The CV of a unit, is 1/3 of the sum of its morale grade, unit motivation and armor class.

MORALE GRADES

A unit is UNTRAINED unless Note 5 or 6 is noted on the Army Profile.

Trained Troops who drill with a military goal that stresses team work, and unit order.

Missile troops may make 1MF move before or after they are commanded to fire. All may move 1MF before or after they make a frontage change.

    9- Poor
    12- Inferior
    15- Ordinary: troops with good training and some experience.
    18- Superior: experienced troops with the highest levels of prestige.

Untrained Troops that seldom go to war or are unfamiliar with weapons.

    9- Inferior
    12- Ordinary: troops with either some experience or organization but not both.
    15- Superior: troops with both experience and organization.

Individual Troops from feudal, clan or tribal states whose military ideals stress the individual. Combat is viewed as an individual effort by men accustomed to weapons and warfare.

    9- Inferior: younger warriors who lack the experience of war or of lower class standing.
    15- Ordinary: older warriors who have seen many battles and are familiar with warfare.
    18- Superior: class Warriors whose feudal or personal standing depends on military prowess.

Unit Motivation

The value of the ability of the small unit leaders as reflected in the spirit of their men and their desire to engage an enemy.

    3- wary: troops unwilling to close with an enemy. Foot skirmishers and levy.
    6- cautious: troops that engage an enemy at a distance. Archers, horse archers, spears.
    12- confident: troops willing to engage in face to face melee with an enemy. Men-at-arms, most heavy cavalry.
    18- spirited: troops that willingly enter face to face melee with an enemy. Knights, better heavy cavalry some men-at-arms.

    Armor Class

    AC 6- inferior: men wear no protective clothing.
    AC 9- ordinary: men wear leather or quilt - armor and may use a helmet and shield.
    AC15- superior: men wear mail covering their torso, a helmet, shield and sometimes limb protection.
    AC18- protected: men wear full armor, helmet, shield, on horses with partial metal or full quilted and/or leather armor (protected avalry).
