STOP PRESS: Kriegspieler is now on-line! The 'Spieler's Webmaster Andrew Wilkinson has been beavering away in the background for some time and has just posted our brand spanking new website. I must say that it looks great - what you see on the cover is what you see online. You can find a list of the articles published since our 'new' format was introduced with issue #5 and a list of all our advertisers and their contact addresses including (where known) e-mail and site URLs and heaps more features too numerous to mention AND it'll be growing all the time with more features, a gallery etc, etc... You may have gathered that I'm just a tad exited at this development. Our heartfelt thanks go to Andrew for his (unpaid) first class efforts on behalf of the magazine. The URL at the moment is:
I recently threw open the question of catering for fantasy wargaming in Kriegspieler to my local wargame discussion group (OzeWargaming, hosted by congenial Kriegspieler contributor and prolific rule author David Williams). The consensus of opinion from most experienced gamers was that it should be covered by the magazine but only if it conforms to the overall standard (naturally) and is relevant in some way to historical gaming. I'll make the qualification a little broader than that: if it's interesfing! So if any of our readers think that they've some Fantasy or Sci-fi piece worthy of publication - send it in. Although GW invests the kind of money in its publications that we can only dream about we shouldn't discourage fantasy/sci-fi gamers from being published by us. After all, it is our stated intention to serve all wargamers in Oz & Kiwiland regardless of creed. For those wargamers that might be interested in joining a discussion forum I recommend e-mailing the convenor David Williams: David @Kodiak.com.au Well, another Cancon has come and gone and this gamer had one helluva good time. As promised in the last issue, there is extensive coverage of this seminal event: Kriegspieler was there and tells you all about it! You may have noticed a rather large segment on Horse & Muskety-type events. This is not your humble Editor's wellknown predilection for things Napoleonic - no sirree - the magazine sponsored/promoted several events at Cancon that happened to be H&M (and next year it might be something different) so I think it only fair that we report on it. The DBx comps also got a rather more serious coverage this year and together with several articles, letters etc, form a most significant portion of the contents. Given the overwhelming popularity of it we intend to make DBx reporting a regular segment from now on contributions for publication notwithstanding! (So DB gamers better start scribbling!) In all seriousness, this was the best Cancon I'd been to in years more events, more stalls, more shoals of interested bystanders (if the Elan 'Bigbash'was any indication), in fact there appeared to be more wargaming of every kind. The 'aircraft hangar' at Natex in Canberra seems to have worked out as the ideal venue. But rather than have me rave on about it and to avoid any totally justified accusation of bias, I thought I'd give that dubious honour to someone else NOT associated with the magazine, so here's a report from Tim Sleigh, the President of CGS (the conveners of Cancon).
