Ohio Valley Hoplite Award We started the regional rating system several years ago when a debate came up as to if a National Rating System was wanted/needed. So, we have done the below system now for the last six years. The seventh year will be 2005, and so far, no one has changed their style of play. We continue to have fun at all of our tournaments. I might add that we have no Umpires, as such, just administrators. Ron Holtz, Jeff Fletcher, Scott Jeske, Dave Kasper, Dave Perry and myself have played in many tournaments that we have administered with no ill effects. If a question does come up, we just have one of our rules lawyers not in the game in question make the ruling. The following tournaments will count for 2005: CAPCON, Warband, Summer Sword, Origins Open, Golden Cataphract, ATC, NOWSCON and Winter Sword. The Regional Rating System: 100 points to the 1st place, 0 points for last, with points distributed evenly in between. Five points per round played, and the points you earned in the tournament. That is a total of 211 points possible for a three round tournament. You have to play in at least three of the tournaments to be rated. If you played in a Fourth tournament, your total points would be multiplied by 1.1, or if you played in five tournaments by 1.2. (There are no more bonuses after 5 tournaments) This was done to reward those who played more than the minimum number of tournaments. The top player with the highest score is awarded the Hoplite Trophy. The Hoplite Award this year goes to Rich Hartley. It will be awarded to Rich at CAPCON in May. This is the second time Rich has won the Hoplite Trophy. The top players for the Hoplite Trophy, with their tournament results, are as follows: 1. Rich Hartley, 5 Tournaments (three 1st, one 2nd, one 3rd).
Past Winners of the Hoplite award have been Steve Phallen, Doug Anderson and Dave Perry (2 times). Tournament Schedule A couple of items on the tournament schedule: It does include several other tournaments in the Midwest (three regions are working together -- Ohio Valley, Indiana and Chicago), and includes DBM, DBA and Flames of War tournaments. Some events have yet to be confirmed, so are TBA or TBD. This information will be sent out when it is final. This schedule will change, so try and keep up with the changes. Origins, Columbus Convention Center 15mm DBM Mini, Friday, July 1, 10 am. Four rounds, two 200 AP lists (same geographical and time period). A 15-point scoring system is in effect. A 10-5 forfeit will be assessed if you must drop out or are more than 30 minutes late, unless other arrangements have been made. Flames of War, Friday, July 1, 10 am. Three rounds, 2.5 hours each, 1500 points. Bring your own terrain that is best suited to your army, a random terrain generator will be used. Lists are Mid War (1942 and 1943). You may use the Flames of War rulebook, Diving Eagles, Hitler's Fire Brigade, Old Ironsides, Desert Rats, Desert Fox and Stalingrad Intelligence Handbooks (check to see if any other releases will be accepted). You may have two lists but same company type (if the company commander in one list is an Infantry one, he must be in the second list, as well. The missions will be: Meeting engagement; Free for all: Hold the line. Prizes will be awarded for Best Allied General and Best Axis General (largest battle total), best painted (largest painted score total) and best sportsman (largest sportsman score total). I will use a total score, not an average score. 4th Annual 15mm DBM Open, Saturday, July 2, 10 am. Three rounds, 400 AP lists in same geographical and time period.
