Half Price Historical miniatures gamers tend to be patriotic folks, and now, a convention geared towards our hobby is showing its colors. Origins 2005 is offering half price admission to all current members of our Active Duty, Guard and Reserve military forces. The attendees will need to show their valid military ID to get the discount, which allows access to all areas of the show and ticketed game play. The deadline for pre-registration for this badge is May 25. You can buy them onsite at the convention, as well. For more information, go to www.originsgames.com or e-mail: accounting@gama.org. And non-military Great Lakes members won't be left out, either. Once again, our chapter is receiving discount admission to Origins. For more information, contact Steve Smith, 29715 Carolina Ave, Elkhart, IN 46516. (574) 295-9962, or e-mail: sven_46516@msn.com/ . What If? What is Origins 05? Origins is a national convention held in Columbus June 30-July 3. Origins is run by the Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and includes all forms of gaming. What is the Theme Project? It is an overall theme to tie a series of miniatures, boardgames and seminars together with military style command post map exercises. If we could figure out how to include role playing and card games, we would! What is the Origins 05 Theme? This year's theme is TWIXT IN TIME. We have elected to focus on a number of What If Invasions for the main games. These invasions are the centerpiece of the event, and include Oahu 1941, Cuba 1962, Japan 1945 and the Soviet Union in 1940 or 1941 (Soviets invading German Territory). This is not to limit yourself in any way to those specific invasions. What does the Origins 05 Theme project need? We need games and game masters who are willing to commit to a slate of games that will fit into the general theme. What does that mean for me? We need GMs to run events of their own devising. In addition, we need GMs to aid in running miniatures and board games already plotted. What is in it for the group? Exposure of your game to more people (including possible additional advertising for the events that fall under the theme), expansion of the number of people playing, exposure of your group to allow a wider variety of input. What is in it for the GM? The usual...we may be able to provide the individual GMs with reduced or even free admission, based off the number of players his games will support over the weekend. What do I do? E-mail me at: SCThemeCoordinator@yahoo.com and let me know:
(2) when you could run it and (3) how many players you can handle or (4) if you would be able to provide material support for events.
