from the Johnny Reb Gaming Society The second issue of Charge, the official newsletter of The Johnny Reb Gaming Society, came out in February. This issue is somewhat similar to the first since it has several excellent scenarios, articles, pictures, and more. Heth Bar is the first scenario, covering the early morning hours of July 1, and recreates the fight between General Henry Heth's rebel infantry and General John Buford's Union cavalry. The map appears to be for Geo-hex, but can be converted. This scenario is from Tac News. Perryville, KY, is next in line. As Bragg invaded Kentucky in 1862, Don Carlos Buell and his Army of the Ohio followed. Bragg caused trouble in state, the Yankees even had to move the Kentucky State Government to prevent the officials from being captured. Finally, the two armies blundered into each other at Perryville, KY. The scenario starts at 2:40 pm and ends at 6:20. The rebels slightly outnumber the Yankees in this scenario written by George Anderson. Rounding out the scenarios for this issue is Salem Cemetary, which is near Jackson, TN. General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his troopers are riding down the Cottage Grove Road when they are suddenly ambushed by outnumbered, but determined Union cavalrymen under the command of Col. Adolph Englemann. The rebels leave four dismounted troopers to slow the Yankees, while the rest of the Confederate force pulled back. By the time they reformed about a half a mile from the ambushed spot, the troopers had been captured by the Union cavalrymen. The confederates opened fire with three artillery pieces that had been captured earlier. The Union force withdrew, having lost two killed and 15 wounded, but they inflicted 60-80 casualties. This scenario suggests that Forrest was more aggressive after he had been ambushed, and he uses more of his cavalry. There are other goodies in this issue as well, such as a terrain article by Doug Kline, changes to the charge sequence by George Anderson, a trivia section, and more. Charge is edited by Scott Mingus. The cost to join the Johnny Reb Gaming Society is $15. Back issues are $5 with $1 shipping.
