MAC Title

Down to Wire at Gamefest

by Scott Jeske

The Mid American Championship Series standings after six qualifying events are:
Mike Pfanenstiel 60 points
Mike Hart 15 points
Scott Jeske 45 points
Bart Pisarik 15 points
Jeff Fletcher 40 points
Pat McCabe 10 points
Rich Novak 40 points
Glen Boise 10 points
Darrell Smith 30 points
Chuck Hines 5 points
Doug Anderson 25 points
Jim Hauber 5 points

This means at GameFest Indy Gamefest, Nov. 22-23, at least five players are in the running for top dog in the inaugural MAC Series. We will have a non-playing list checker. For those that submit their lists by Nov. 12, they will be able to play with two lists. Those that miss the deadline will be only able to have one. Armies are to be 400 points using DBM 3.0 and from the latest edition of WRG published army books.

Remember, Gamefest Indy will be a two day event. Rounds 1-3 will be Saturday and the final round will be Sunday. Each round will last 3 hours, 45 minutes (plus or minus 15 minutes to allow the defender the last bound). There will be an award ceremony to follow the last game.

Prior to the con, I will be sending out a questionnaire that I would like you to look over in preparation for the second year's MAC.

Below are the results from Summer Fury:
1st place: Rich Novak, Navarrese, 83 pts
2nd place: Jeff Fletcher, Sciri, 70 pts
3rd place: Doug Anderson, Cen. Asian City States, 59 pts
4th place: Scott Jeske, Hunnic, 58 pts
5th place: Mike Pfanenstiel, Mongol Conquest, 51 pts
6th place: Charles Epstein, Seleucid, 49 pts
7th place: Jim Hauber, Alexandrian Imperial, 45 pts
8th place: Mike Hart, Nikephorian Byzantine, 36 pts
9th place Glenn Boise, French Ordonnance, 23 pts
10th place: Justin Hart, Late Imperial Rome (W), 6 pts

Good times were had by all, I believe. Even with Mike Hart having to beat up on his son, Justin, just to get back to respectability. Overheard were comments about "groundings, loss of allowance, and /or added chores" before the match, so more than just a game was at stake. Jeff Fletcher continues his dominance over Scott Jeske. When will the horror ever end? Charles Epstein's Seleucids make a surprise showing going into his final game with Glenn Boise's French Ordonnance needing only a winning draw to crack the points level. Alas, his tray of luck ran out just when he needed it the most, and could only muster a 16-16 mutual break.

I think Doug and Rich had the shortest championship match in history, barely beating out the classic Mike Pfanenstiel's clobbering of Scott Jeske's Vikings at GenCon in a record 30 minutes! Truth be known, Rich provided the trophy and did such a good job with it, he just had to take it back home with him. Sources tell us, he even told his wife to clear a place over the mantle for it, before he ever left Indy!

And here are the results from the September tourney in Indianapolis. We had some last minute cancellations, but everyone that was there had a good time. The games were very competitive.

1. Mike Pfanenstiel, Mongol, 94 pts (20 MAC pts)
2. Bart Pisarik, Nikephorian Byzantine, 63 pts (15 MAC pts)
3. Glen Boise, French Ordonnance, 61 pts (10 MAC pts)
4. Jim Hauber, Early Nubian, 36 pts (5 MAC pts)
5. Scott Stensland, Papal Italian, 22 pts
6. Mark Webb, Later Achaemenid Persian, 12 pts
