Ernie Baker

My name is Ernie Baker, I have been in War Gaming for 44 years. I have one son that is in his 20th year of gaming (Fantasy mainly) and another son in his 30th year (and is VP of U.S. operations for Games Workshop). So, you can see I love wargaming for the people that come together -- the type of game does not matter. I look for fun, competition and good scenarios of all kinds.

After 40 years, I have found the people of HMGS Great Lakes are some of the finest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and game with. I would like to see some of Great Lakes members look into how we can bring 18 year olds into gaming, through painting roundtables, discussion tables and games for instruction purposes, with one senior Great Lakes member to two newbies.

Thank You.

Tom Bryant

Hi All, I started gaming about 18 years ago, first with the old Metagaming Microgames (Steve Jackson's wonderful pocket box games) and Task Force Games Pocket Games, and moving up to board games. After a break of about six years, I started into miniatures gaming. That was in 1995. Since 1996, I've been a member of HMGS Great Lakes and enjoy all aspects of historical miniatures gaming. For work, I've been running my own drafting and design company, Excalibur Design Specialties for the past four years and have been a CAD designer for 10 years now, along with some animation and graphic design work thrown in for good measure.

I decided to run for the board four years ago after seeing all of the infighting on the rec.games.miniatures.historical newsgroup about HMGS East. I believed then, and still do now, that we have a fine chapter and that I could be a part of its decision making operation. In the past two years, we have seen our membership grow, seen stronger connections made with groups outside of the Dayton-Columbus region, and have run several successful conventions. Since that time, I have worked hard to help promote historical miniatures gaming here on my home turf in Western Michigan and at GenCon for the past two years. I believe we do the best job of anyone in the country at running and putting on conventions and demo events. We continue to prosper thanks in no small way to the interest and participation of our membership. I would like to continue to be a part of that growth and prosperity and help make the Great Lakes chapter the best HMGS chapter in the country.
