Thoughts from the Oval Office

Busy

by Great Lakes President Tom Bryant

It's been a nice summer so far. The weather has been fine, our days on the whole have been sunny and nice, and we've had a wonderful and successful convention season. To date, we've had Warband, Drums, Origins, Warparty and GenCon, not to mention a host of other small regional and national cons. Our flagship event is coming up, Advance the Colors, and I for one can't wait. We do a wonderful job every year and I have no reason to suspect that this year's event will be any different. I am also so glad to be a part of this chapter, particularly when I see some of the rancor and infighting taking place on other mail lists. We are indeed lucky.

I also know we've been busy. My thanks to those of you who have volunteered to help out either running events, or just running around at our conventions, games days and demos. You guys really make this organization go. It would all be pointless without your help and hard work. For those of you that haven't yet stepped up to the plate, why haven't you? We always need help for our shows and cons. We need folks who can help us load and unload, to help set up and take down tables, and of course to run events. I realize that many of you can't do this because of "real life"...you know, family, job, other outside commitments, etc. I understand that and do sympathize. Help us when and where you can. For the rest for you folks, come on, lend a hand, you know you want to. Seriously, though, it really doesn't take much. Show the flag about historical miniatures gaming when and where you can. Run a game at the local game store or hobby shop. Participate in a small regional or local convention. Put up fliers for HMGS events at the places you game in public.

It doesn't take a lot of time or cost a lot of money to do this, just a little effort. Again, thanks to all our volunteers -- from our convention directors and events coordinators, all the way to the folks who help set up tables or just put up some fliers in their neighborhood hobby shops. Thanks again. Now, it's time for me to get off the soapbox and back to the important stuff, The Herald.

Until next time, Good Luck and Good Gaming.
