It's a new year, and our thoughts turn to the 2003 wargaming season! After kicking the idea around with some folks and discussions with Dave Van Hoose, I'm spearheading a drive to provide a Volley And Bayonet 'mini-theme' at this year's Advance the Colors 2003. What is a 'mini-theme?' In this case, the theme is a common set of rules that can be applied to different historical periods. Our goal is to provide a number of games that you can learn the basic mechanics in your first game and then concentrate on play of future games, without learning a entirely new set of rules. This project arose from several Volley and Bayonet games played at HMGS Great Lakes conventions that were (A) Easy to learn (B) Played to completion in approximately four to six hours. We hope to provide 10-12 Volley and Bayonet games spread across the convention covering periods from the Seven Years War through the Spanish-American War. To date, I've had interest expressed in Napoleonics, American Civil War and Spanish-American War games. If you are interested in hosting a Volley and Bayonet game at ATC 2003, please check out the Volley and Bayonet mini-theme page at: http://hometown.aol.com/vnbatatc//vnbatatc.html If you have any questions, don't hesistate to contact me at: garbee@aol.com.
