Regional Rating System

100 points to the 1st place, 0 points for last, with points distributed evenly in between. Five points per round played, and the points you earned in the tournament. That is a total of 145 points possible for a three round tournament. You have to play in at least two of the tournaments to be rated. If you played in a third tournament, your total points would be multiplied by 1.1, or if you played in all four tournaments by 1.2. This was done to reward those who played more than the minimum number of tournaments. The results were a very close race this year. Nine players qualified in the system. Four played in all four tournaments, and another four played in three. The player with the highest score is awarded the Hoplite Trophy, each year.

Rich Hartley will be the keeper of the regional rating system scores for the Ohio Valley Hoplites. The RRS will go for the calendar year. What purpose does this serve, you might ask? It satisfied our thirst for blood. Even the lowest rated player could affect the rating by getting just one point from a "more worthy" opponent. The more you play, the more points you earn. Also, the number one player will be given a spot in the NICT if not already qualified.

Upcoming events

Capcon will be May 2-4 at the OSU Student Union (http://www.mgaosu.org/index.html). We will do our DBM tournament on Saturday, May 3. Start time will be 10 am sharp, 15mm and 25mm will be played (3 rounds of 3.5 hours, 400 AP for 15mm and for the men playing 25mm, you will only get 350 points). Two lists, $5 entry fee.

Summer Sword will feature two tournaments this year. There will be a 15mm 200 AP mini (four rounds) Friday, June 27, with a 15mm Open (three rounds) on Saturday. We will run a 25mm tournament at Origins if there is enough interest.

The following standard rules are in effect for all Ohio Valley Hoplite Tournaments: Mini tournaments use mini rules and 200 APs. 15mm Opens use 400 APs. 25mm Open use 350 APs. 15mm Doubles use 500 APs. 25mm Doubles will use 400 APs -- if we ever do one. We allow two lists from same time period and geographic region in all Ohio Valley Hoplite tournaments (unless stated otherwise). We use the BHGS (32 points) scoring system. The "Hoplite Way"

Just for the Record, Rich Hartley is Ohio Valley's Regional Coordinator, Ron Holtz is the Treasurer, Jeff Fletcher and Dave Perry are Assistant GMs (i.e., rules lawyers). I collect painted figures from various source (thanks goes to Jeff Fletcher, Mike Demana and Fred Daniels) for use on the trophies for DBM and DBA. Ron cuts out the wooden plaques, orders the brass plates, which I finish and apply the brass plates to and then give them away. This system has worked out pretty well for us so far. I would suggest that the Indiana Cohorts adopt a similar plan. Don't forget to encourage players to join NASAMW and to file your expenses (keep your receipts) with the national chapter (NASAMW Treasurer) to get the money back that you spend on trophies. For every member in the region which joined NASAMW, the region is entitled to $5 back, but you must show the expenses (again, save receipts).member and are requesting the club discount.

NASAMW dues will be collected every September (or at Historicon). The dues are still $18 at year.
