Winter is officially here and that means finishing those painting projects that you put off this Summer. No, I don't mean the living room, I mean those 25 or 30 primed figures taking up space on the corner of your desk. Personally, I have 10 magnetic assault troops for my spaceship game and a complete 25mm Viking army from Foundry that is still in the box. With the new season comes a change in the daily schedule. Days are shorter, daylight dwindles and more time is spent indoors. It seems I spend more time re-organizing my work space than actually finishing a project. That's how I found the space troops. The more I clean up, the more neat stuff I find to distract me. I think we all have more than a few irons in the fire, but that's what keeps life interesting! The results are in on the GL survey and I want to thank all who participated. I really appreciate the effort by you guys to help me with this project. Now, on to the numbers. The first fact that can be gleaned from this information is that we are indeed a group of individuals. No specific topic was lop-sided, except in the opinion section. We seem to follow the national averages in the categories of education, military service, and marital status. And yes, we are normal in height and weight also (it's those fantasy/RP guys with their bags of dice that most people associate with gaming). We split pretty much down the middle when it comes to other activities. Some, but not all, play computer games. Some, but not all, have other hobbies. The vast majority of respondents (95%) attend gaming conventions, the average being 3.6 per year. OK, let's call it four. We also belong to local gaming groups (90%) and game regularly at home. The opinion section of the survey was very rewarding. Everyone believes we are doing a good job with GL. Many also sent in comments about what they would like to add or change. All of the comments were positive. The most frequent comment was praising The Herald as a really great newsletter. Our conventions also earned honorable mention. I don't have the space to go into details here, though. Let me just say that all comments will be addressed in the future. I will transform all of this data into standard pie charts and they will be displayed at Drums in May. Let me close by saying that I hope you learned something from filling out the survey. I did, because it was the first time I realized I had to check 50+ in the age group. I guess I've been too busy having fun to notice the time!
