Ohio is planning many programs and special events to celebrate our statehood. Up here in NW Ohio, we will have the grand opening of the Museum and Visitor Center at Ft. Meigs. This is planned for May 3-4, (two weeks before we use the new center for our Sunday Event at Drums Along the Maumee 4). We will be running two or three games with a historical connection to this area. A War of 1812 scenario and a French and Indian conflict are on the schedule, so far. Be sure to check the GL web site for a current game list. The new Visitor Center is huge, with classrooms and a large gift shop. The shop has a very good selection of books and other literature. It's not officially open yet, but they have quietly opened occasionally to get the staff ready for Spring. In addition to the activities at the fort, we will be involved again at the Wolcott House Museum Complex. I will have a miniatures display explaining the Ohio/Michigan Boundary Dispute of 1835. Since I run a scenario based on this event every year at Drums, I jumped at the chance to do a diorama. Chuck Jacobs, the director at the Wolcott House, wants to collect 200 artifacts or images pertaining to Ohio's statehood. My display will qualify as one. Of course, I told him the troops must take a leave of absence during our convention for Round 4 of the Toledo War! Also, I have started a new program at Mind Games, Inc., called "Second Sunday." Every second Sunday of the month I will run a game or terrain building workshop. So far, turn-out has been light, but a lot of people stop and ask questions and sign my e-mail list. One way to increase awareness of historical miniatures gaming is to take it to where gamers of all types hang out. Oh, and I get more time playing and having fun!
