Well, Winter will be over in about a month and the time has come to start planning for Advance the Colors. This year's convention will mark my fourth year as convention director. Therefore, I am looking for a member of Great Lakes (or one of our Regional clubs) to step forward and work side by side with me this year so that I can turn over the duties of convention director after this year's convention. For more information, please contact me at the address listed below. We will host ATC 2003 Sept. 12-14 at the Holiday Inn, Springfield, OH (383 E. Leffel Ln.). I am now calling for Game Masters to start developing plans for events and volunteers to take on convention staff positions so that we can all ensure a safe and enjoyable convention. As members of Great Lakes, I know you are interested in assisting the chapter, and here are two great ways for you to do just that. Don't worry if you haven't been a GM at a convention in the past; Our chapter has many members whom you can contact for pointers. If this isn't you cup of tea, though, you will find many other ways you can assist with the convention, below. If you would like to submit an event, an event proposal form is currently in the files section of the Great Lakes e-mail list at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HMGSGL/files/Advance%20the%20Colors%202003/. It will also appear in the next issue (Herald #52) and on the web site soon. Or if you want to volunteer to assist on site during the convention, write or e-mail me a short note detailing your interest at: David K. van Hoose, 10518 Brookview Dr., Carmel, IN 46032. Phone: (317) 581 8840, or e-mail: davidkvh@aol.com. The following positions need to be filled: Site Event Coordinators (six volunteers needed) We need six on site Event Coordinators (Friday afternoon, Friday evening, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening, and Sunday.) The duties of an event coordinator are to man the Event/Game Master check in table and assist the Game Masters in finding their table. Make sure the events get started on time. Make sure that the Game Masters cleans up the table on time. Answer questions concerning upcoming events, and help the game master fill their games by directing ATC guests to open games. Front Desk Volunteer (30 volunteers needed) We have 30 slots for Front Desk assistance. Each slot lasts 2 hours during the business hours of the front desk on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The duties of a Front Desk Volunteer are assisting members checking into the convention, taking in funds for the convention, membership, T-shirt, and raffle, along with basic record keeping. I am hoping to have all positions filled before August 20, 2003.
