Another River, Another Town: A Teenage Tank Gunner Comes of Age in Combat - 1945
by John P Irwin, Random House, Inc.

One thing I know little about is tank to tank combat. I bought this from the History Book Club to gain a little insight. At 192 pages, it is a short book, and the author was in combat for only the final year of the war. So while not crammed with information, what action he did see is related in a eye-opening, blow-by-blow manner.

You are treated to the author's reflections, too, filtered through the decades he spent as a university Philosophy professor. He doesn't "go easy" on himself or his comrades, and digs into what he thought then and now about the honor of combat on the Western front in World War II. So, if you want to get into the head of a young tank gunner, this book will be a good read.
