Thoughts from the Oval Office

Editorial

by Great Lakes President Tom Bryant

Another summer is almost over, and I, for one, am quite beat. Starting with the fabulous performance of the Colby Street Irregulars at Drums Along the Maumee in May, going on to the fine work of Pete and Jodie Panzeri for the Historicals at Origins Team in early July, we had wonderful events and loads of fun. Rich Smethhurst and his Basement Gang kept the streak rolling with another great showing at Warparty. Then came the first of two real scores for us this year: Historicals at Gencon. We got into that one with only six -- yes, six -weeks warning and managed to put on several nice events, get new folks signed up, and spread the good word about historical miniatures gaming to fresh faces and a new audience.

Now comes the big show, the one you've all been waiting for, Advance the Colors. Yes, like Christmas day when you were four years old, the big day is finally here. I'm writing this before the show, but I am certain that I and many others will be plagued with the same wonderful dilemma: What games to play? Doesn't that just drive you nuts? Of course, it's the kind of crazy we all want, especially at our flagship con. My hat is off to you, David, for another wonderful effort.

This by no means ends the fun for the year, though. On Nov. 22-24, we will be making the first showing at Gamefest Indy in Indianapolis. This is the second little gem we've been blessed with this year. David van Hoose has been doing yeoman's work in organizing events for this show, and if you can, please sign up to run a game or stop by to play. If that's too far a run for you, then please check out U-CON over at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the same weekend. This will be another first of HMGS Great Lakes and we need events and players for the show, so stop on in if you can, and offer to run or play a game.

Now, if you missed all of the previous events you missed a lot of fun and good times. There are still a few chances to come out and enjoy the camaraderie and good times, so come on out. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Directors, the convention staffs at all of the events we've been to, and to everyone who pitched in and lent a hand to make this one of our best years ever. Thanks again, folks. Now then, Good Luck and Good Gaming.
