ATC DBA Tourney

Huge Turnout

by Dennis Frank

The 5th Annual Advance the Colors DBA Tournament was the biggest yet with 28 (!) participants. Half a dozen other convention participants also indicated an interest, so there's clearly room for a bigger event. Eleven players were new, or returning after substantial intervals, so our goal of introducing the game to another generation of DBA gainers was well satisfied.

Rich Smethurst finished first with a 4-0 record, beating the also undefeated Alan Winterrowd by one point in a tie-breaker situation. NASAMW supplied a trophy for the victor who also won a Pocket DBA set.

The order of finish (with my apologies for any misspellings):

    1. Rich Smethurst, 4-0
    2. Alan Winterrowd, 4-0
    3. Mike Stelzone, 3-1
    4. Dick Keyel, 3-1
    5. Jim Williams, 3-1
    6. Darren Buxbaum, 3-1
    7t. Ray Garbee, 3-1
    7t. Rob Herrick, 3-1
    9. Mike Demana, 2-2
    10. John Adkins, 2-1-1
    11. Paul Potter, 2-2
    12. Alan Wright, 2-2
    13. Bud Hunter, 2-2
    14. Steve Smith, 2-2
    15t. Rich Kurman, 2-2
    15t. Harvey Hams, 2-2
    17. Dennis Schroder, 2-1-1
    18. Chris Carroll, 2-2
    19. John Meunier, 2-2
    20. Jon Lawitzke, 1-3
    21. Bill Weber, 1-3
    22. Jay Bevington, 1-3
    23. Sean Weber, 1-3
    24. Terry Hollern, 1-3
    25t. Brad Thurmond, 1-3
    25t. Bruce Woodworth, 1-3
    27. Jacob Zumbrenner, 1-3
    28. Withdrew

Many thanks to our "veterans" who assisted the new and returning folks in learning the game, and for their rules pointers when my three hours of sleep kicked in, from time to time, and left me wondering. We're looking forward to next year's event ...32 players? 64???
