Battlefields

'Best Showing' Yet

Photos and story by Mike Reese

I don't know if anyone else read any of these comments on Battlefields Convention, March 23, on the Great Lakes e-mail list, so I put them below and am adding my own.

I arrived in the morning, fairly early, but not as early as I wanted. I missed the first sign-up, which was okay. I grabbed my camera and shot some pictures of some really great games -- American Civil War, Command Decision, American Revolutionary War, some Medieval battles, some Napoleonics, the Spanish Civil War and World War II. Oh yes, some of that Sci-Fi stuff, too, but not much.

Jim Thomasson ran his 25mm French and Indian War battle at the same time I did my 28mm Russian Front Battleground World War II game, so no pictures of his. On the other hand, I have a lot of pictures of my game.

I played in another Battleground World War II game in the evening. This was in 20mm and very well done. How can I complain? I got the Tiger I! Nice table and nice models and a messy nighttime scenario somewhere in France. U.S. paratroops and ground troops mixed in with German armor and infantry. A real mess as can be seen from the pictures, which I've uploaded on the web site: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Tank_GuyPic/.

Colby Street Irregulars' comments:

"The Colby's went to Westland, MI, and ran a French and Indian Battle in 25mm scale. The Pro or Con Staff said it was their best showing yet for this one day convention. Saw some very good looking battles as we flew the flag for Great Lakes and set out flyers for Drums 3. Glass City Games, a Friend of Great Lakes, was also in attendance. Was a good show of about 130-plus gamers and we saw about six of the Drums' GMs for the coming season. Was a good trip." -- Jim Thomasson

Glass City Games' comments:

"I would like to thank the folks at Battlefields for their help and support during the con. Glass City Games enjoyed the support of many of the gamers and staff by their generous help and purchases. From a business point of view, this was a success for me. From a personal point of view, I enjoyed the renewed friendships and new friends made this past Saturday. Many very good looking battles and battlefields all day. My only regret is that I did not get a chance to play. Next time I hope to get in on the fun! I look forward to the next Battlefields!" -- Steve Straub
