ATC 2002

Lining Up Sponsors and Events

by David K. van Hoose

Planning for Advance The Colors 2002 is running well, and it is because of your support that our chapter can continue to host conventions like ATC, Drums and Warparty. Sept. 13-15 will find us at the Holiday Inn, Springfield, OH, enjoying what ATC has to offer (Springfield is located between Columbus and Dayton on I-70). This is our second year at this Holiday Inn, and we have confirmed our 2003 dates at this site, too.

This year, we have added a convention sponsorship program. So far, Eureka Miniatures and Piquet, Inc., have signed on as convention sponsors. Eureka Miniatures is donating figure grab bags, and Piquet is supplying eight games, as door and event prizes. To date, we have contacted 125 different companies concerning sponsorship of ATC and we hope that the would list will continue to grow before our Aug. 1 deadline. If you know of a company that would be interested in sponsorship of ATC, please have them contact me.

I started scheduling events for the con in April 11, and as of this date, we have events covering the following historical periods: Greek/Roman; General Ancients; Pre-1700s; Medieval/Renaissance; Seven Years Wars; American Revolution; Napoleonic; American Westerns; American Civil War; Colonial, World War I; World War II, Vietnam, and other Modern conflicts. With 35 events scheduled so far, we are just over the half way point. We are still looking for events in the following periods: Biblical/Egyptian; Pre-1300s Medieval; War of the Roses; French & Indian War; War of 1812; Mexican/American War; Crimean War and Korean War. If you are interested in hosting an event, please forward a proposal to me before the July 1 deadline. Proposal forms are available for download from our web site and the e-mail list, in this issue, and you can contact me directly.

Joe Cairo, our dealer coordinator, has been very busy lining up a great list of dealers. He started in April by sending out invitations to all of our past dealers. As of today, we have confirmation from Nafziger, Imperialist Enterprises, RLBPS, The Soldiery, Outland Games, and The Free Trader. Joe expects the dealer area to sell out well in advance of the July 1 deadline. With less than 20 weeks to go before the convention, now is the time to start saving your pennies, and support the dealers who support the con. Without them, ATC would not be the great convention that is today.

Our publicity coordinator, Robin Breedan, had been busy sending out press release information to regional gaming groups in our area. Raffle Coordinator Jack Shaw is busy planning this year's event and will be shortly sending out more information to the membership.

The Holiday Inn has given us a rate of $60 per night per room, plus 12% tax. To compare prices of other hotels within three miles of the convention site, go to www.hmgsgl.org and review the convention information page. To get this rate, make your reservations before Aug. 23, 2002. Also, you must call the Hotel directly, asking for the HMGS Great Lakes Chapter rate. I can not say this strongly enough: Make your reservations as soon as possible, because there are two major events in the area and the room fill up fast. We have blocked 25 rooms per night and we will add more rooms if they are needed (but only if they are available). Currently, we have only 16 of those 25 in our first block left. Please do not wait to the last minute and get "left out in the cold."

Please keeping checking out the ATC 2002-convention web site (http://www.hmgsgl.com/atc.htm) for the most current information. Every one should thank Ed Lizak for the great job he is doing in keeping this site up to date!
