by Great Lakes Chairman Jack E. Shaw, Sr.
Here it is, November already, with the holidays getting closer and ATC is just a memory. Even with the terrible events that occurred just before ATC, I think everyone who attended had a good time and was able to set the attacks aside for a while. At the membership meeting at ATC, there were 25 members and 3 Board members present. The membership voted on a proposed by-laws change, changing board terms from two years to three years, with the terms staggered to insure that there are always veteran board members to assist the new ones. The new term length will begin with the next election. The membership also voted and passed the motion of our having our own election director, who will count the votes of the upcoming election and report the results to the Chairman of the Board. I am proud to announce that Jeff Chattin was nominated and the membership voted to make him our election director for Great Lakes. As everyone knows, elections for the Board of Directors is coming up. Anyone interested should submit a short bio to Herald editor Mike Demana, whose e-mail address is in the front of The Herald. Certificates of recognition were given to the Colby Street Irregulars for their work on Drums Along the Maumee, Smethurst's Basement for their work on Warparty, and to Jeff and John Chattin for their tireless work in helping to set up the tables and working the registration table at ATC. Also, a certificate went to David Van Hoose for his job as Convention Coordinator for ATC. Jim Thomasson, of the Colby Street Irregulars, gave a report on Drums Along the Maumee 3, to be held May 2002. Rich Smethurst gave a report on Warparty 2 in Cincinnati, to take place in July 2002. Further information on these two conventions will be in The Herald throughout the year. Advance the Colors 2002 will also be at the Holiday Inn, Springfield. More information on it will be in The Herald and at the web site (www.hmgsgl.org). The raffle at ATC was a success with over $200 taken in. Our thanks to everyone who donated items to the raffle. The Treasurer's Report on the convention also looks good. We made money at this year's ATC. The report appears in this issue. The final part of the membership meeting was the Board thanking two new Great Lakes members, Erin and John Adkins, who came from West Virginia. Not only did they join Great Lakes, but they also gave of their time and worked four hours at the registration table. Since ATC, Erin and John have moved to Lexington, Ky, and we hope to see them at ATC 2002. The membership meeting was then adjourned and the final day of gaming began. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we would like to thank everyone who attended and hope to see even more members next year.
