Oval Office

Transitions

by Tom Bryant, HMGS Great Lakes President

The days grow short and the weather grows colder. Now, as we all slip into winter quarters, with the yard work done (I still have mine to do yet -- D'oh!). It is also the time of year that we gather our forces into the winter quarters in our basements, rec rooms and dens to ready them for next year's campaign season. It is also the time for transition and change. It is with some sadness that Joe Fox leaves the ranks of the Board of Directors. Bud Hunter will replace him.

We also have the addition of an old hand to our command ranks. Darryl Smith, former board member has offered his services as recruitment officer. If any of you have neat ideas that you think will help us get new members (free beer and strippers are out), please send them to him, or forward them to us. One of the things that I am hoping for and working toward is more information and closer co-operation with small local conventions. I think many of these small one-day events should be known about. Here in Michigan, two that don't get much notice are Pro-or-Con and Peninsular Campaigns. It would be great if we could publish some of these cons in the Herald along with the games that are being played.

These events and the others like them throughout Great Lakes territory help showcase the hobby to non-gamers and those gamers in the non-historical community. I can't wait for spring and the new convention season (Spartacon and Wintercon being the exceptions to that). However, I do hope to have at least one of my armies finished in time for those fights. That, and get the last of the leaves up. Until next time, good luck and good gaming.
