Once the North started falling back, they never stopped. Very little, if any, resistance. Casualties were about 8 to 1, and many Union officers died or were captured. Hail the Confederacy! Also, we are getting ready to do a 7YW campaign using the Age of Reason rule set. This will be a 12 turn campaign involving the Russians (w/Swedes), French, Austrians, Spanish, and the Prussians. Colby Street Irregulars - This group has been meeting for more than16 years on Wednesdays, 7-11pm, in the Toledo area. They game all periods using their homegrown set of "universal" rules. A message from the Colonel Colby Where to begin? The Colby's are into Stage Four of the Drums Along the Maumee Convention Circuit. Monthly meetings are now on the plate to go along with the thrice-weekly internet Soup Can link. Dealers and GameMaster Lists are being compiled for the May 2001 Event. Priority will be keep for previous Friends of Great Lakes who supported last year's First Historical Miniature convention in the Toledo with room set aside for new blood for those who want to join our fun. The Colby's recently journeyed to Pro or Con in Detroit to setup relations with their fine organization for mutual help in the upcoming Cons that they and Great Lakes are supporting in the area. Members have run events at Tolcon's November GameFest and Glass City games two-day Gamefest. Plans have been approved to run at WinterCon in Detroit come January, and possibly SpartaCon in Lansing. Come March, we hope to have events at Bashcon in Toledo and Seven Years War in South Bend! Hope the gas prices go down some or we may use the old Erie Canal for transport! Relations with the new board of directors for Great Lakes have turned out very nicely for all that are involved with Drums, ATC and a general recruitment drive for HMGS GL. Much cooperation has been given to us from the ATC Staff of David, Jack and Andy -- thank you gentlemen! The Johnson Brothers African Adventure Game from ATC has proven to be a hit, plans are progressing with the expanded French Foreign Legion Game and Tom Trotter promises to have his American Civil War Skirmish Varient ready to go by Drums. Other items -- hernias, pacemakers, sinusitis, bone spurs, back problems.....all part of the graying of the Colby's' and maybe our Hobby,eh? Tim Weber is beginning work on our Colby Pirates endeavor, Mike Hill is fine-tuning his next Fireteam Battle and Jim has his Boxers and Foreign Devils based and primed. The Colby Journal will be out soon. Each year, we print up a
storyline for all the games and events that transpired in the previous 12
months. New faces, games, figures, heroic battles and dumb bunny
encounters -- most are lies or worse but glorious! More demos are being
planned for Glass City Games here locally in Toledo, who has branched
out on their historical figures, rules, paint, terrain and even a Wed nite
spot for historical battles. The Colby Christmas Party will be soon and
we shall begin the campaign to put Drums 2 into the schedule for all to attend.
Confederation of Friends - This Indiana club specializes in 20mm Napoleonics. The 10 members have armies to represent all combatants of the 1809 time period. Conflict Simulations Club - This group of gamers from Indiana University does mostly historical miniatures, with occaisonal board games and fantasy/sci-fi. The Mid-Ohio Gamers' Group (M.O.G.G.) - This group was formed in 1980 from a close group of friends dedicated to medieval and fantasy miniatures. In its growth, M.O.G.G. expanded its variety of games, held various Medieval and World War II battles at cons, gained new members, and offered competitive challenges to other local clubs. The Minatures and Gaming Association at The Ohio State University - This group has been meeting for years, playing a mix of historical and fantasy, on the campus of OSU. In October, Doug Rogers, Walt Armstrong, and Scott Mingus were the principals in a 15mm Gettysburg - "Morning at Willoughby Run" 15mm game presented at the Western Reserve Historical Society's large Civil War exhibition at the Wade Museum. The game was viewed by more than 50 non-gamers! In November, Scott Mingus presented his "Gettysburg - Action on Cashtown Road" 15mm Johnny Reb III game at HMGS East's Fall-In convention (in Gettysburg, of course!). Eight players enjoyed the action (a Yankee win -- thanks to the Iron Brigade!). See the battle report this issue. Work was completed on several more Gettysburg JR III scenarios in preparation for the upcoming scenario book - 'Enduring Valor: Gettysburg in Miniature.'
