Recently, Jim Thomasson of the Colby Street Irregulars conducted a poll using the Great Lakes e-mail list. He asked members to name their top ten favorite World War II films. Although only nine members responded, they listed quite a few movies. Here are the films that were nominated at least twice (number of actual votes in parantheses).
2. Tora Tora Tora (5) 3. Patton (3) 4. The Longest Day (3) 5. Sink the Bismarck (3) 6. Midway (2) 7. Operation Pacific (2) 8. A Walk in the Sun (2) 9. A Bridge Too Far (2) 10. Cross of Iron (2) 11. Kelly's Heroes (2) 12. They Were Expendable (2) 13. Where Eagles Dare (2) 14. The Great Escape (2) 15. Big Red One (2) 16. Das Boot (2) 17. The Eagle Has Landed (2) 18. In Harm's Way (2) * Tiebreaker was by the order the film was listed in the nominating member's top ten. A special 'To the Beat of a Different Drummer' award goes to ex-President Matt Davidson, who went above and beyond by listing 16 films -- none of which were seconded by other respondents!
