Frigate O.H. Perry

Help Save 70s Ship

by Brian O'Leary

The O.H. Perry was completed in 1977 as the first of a rather large class of low cost (frigates?) FFGs. The Perry's boxy superstructure gave it a distinctive appearance, and their rather austere equipment outfit proved to be a very effective solution to answer the "Red Threat" of the 1970s and 1980s. The Perry ended its career in 1997 and now awaits transfer to "The Last Patrol," a non-profit organization attempting to acquire the Perry for conversion into a museum ship.

It is intended that the O.H. Perry will reside in Toledo as an interactive museum; displays will focus on making children aware of military history. Currently, she is sitting in Philadelphia, awaiting transfer. The Last Patrol needs to raise about one million dollars to bring FFG 7 home and you can help.
